In a potential disruptor to the commercial real estate industry, San Francisco residents will soon vote on Prop D, a proposed punitive taxation on vacant storefront spaces. A tax of $250 per linear square foot on spaces vacant more than 182 days. The levy would rise to $500 and $1,000 if the space remains vacant in future years.
